I'm taking a blogging break until after Comic Con to work on art and business cards.
I'm super excited, but I have a ton of work to do!
I'm hoping to have a small preview card for our comic, and more sailor scout bookmarks available for sale. I'm also going to work on some sailor scout crossovers: I did a sailor princes peach that was so much fun to draw I want to do more. I have ideas for some comic con specific scouts. Hopefully I'll be able to get them finished in time.
Comic Con is May 31st through June 2nd. Come visit me!
This weekend is Animeland Wasabi Con. I am going to be there selling my art - actually liquidating my art. I'm trying to get rid of all of the back-stock I have of prints. What better way to get rid of something than sell it dirt cheap?
I'm sad that I don't have any new art to bring with me to the convention, but what can ya do?
I'm also nervous about having the wee one with me. It will be an adventure if nothing else.
In case you're interested in stopping by, the convention will be held here:
Doubletree Hotel By Hitlon
3203 Quebec Street
Denver, CO 80207
Friday March 1st at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday March 3rd at 4:00 p.m.
The hours are kind of arbitrary; I've never attended a convention that closed at a certain time. Vendors will leave, but artists in Artist Alley usually stay later. And there are always stragglers.
I ended up using the coconut milk I made for chocolate tapioca. The method I used yielded just under 2 1/4 cups of milk, and that was what the tapioca recipe called for.
I did add a little bit of vanilla to the coconut milk (a tiny bit, because vanilla tends to "bloom" if you leave whatever contains the vanilla in the fridge), so it was sweeter than it would have been otherwise.
The overall taste of the milk was better than the tinned coconut milk I buy from Sprouts; it kept the natural coconut taste, so the flavour was much more pronounced.
I wasn't expecting the cream to sort of solidify. I knew it would separate when kept in the refrigerator, but I was surprised that it congealed into something similar to butter. Delicious coconut butter.
I guess I would make it again, even though it took me two days to finish it.
I would definitely make it again just for the tapioca. I'm pretty sure the batch of dark chocolate tapioca I made with the milk was the best tapioca pudding I've had in a long while. I will share the recipe with you when I feel like retrieving the tapioca package to type it up.
I was trying to figure out why it's so hard for me to keep a schedule on this blog. It's certainly not because I don't have the time to write, that is just an excuse I use because I'm loading my time into other things...like staring at facebook urging it to entertain me when I log off of World of Warcraft (WoW) at night. That last sentence explains exactly how good I am at wasting my time.
So, then, why am I so suck-tastic at posting new entries regularly?
After some thought, and a lot of staring at a blank "new post" box it struck me that the reason I don't write more frequently is because I don't feel like I have anything to say.
I feel a lot like a youtuber I sort of follow whose channel is called Crabstickz:
He mentions in this video that there's sort of a pressure to making new content on youtube, which is sort of how I feel about this blog. Namely the bit about there already being other awesome youtubers (bloggers) out there, so why post?
The whole problem is I started this blog with a purpose. I knew, when I started it, that I wasn't going to be in convert instructions forever. There would come a day that I would actually be Catholic and that day would mean finding things to post about relating to actual life.
The assumption was that life would be amazingly different.
Life as a convert is not really all that different. I view the world differently and I process things differently, but in terms of actual day-to-day life nothing exciting really happens. I spend a lot of my time cleaning (a lot, like every day of my life except Sunday - hubby made a rule that I'm not allowed to clean on Sundays, lol), a lot of time chasing down a puppy, and the majority of my time caring for the wee one. Let it be noted that I am not complaining. All of that being said, my time for reflection and having revelations about things is a bit limited.
Only because I choose to limit it.
If I have thirty minutes to myself I spend it cleaning, or online in some fashion. Wasting it away on facebook or youtube...or WoW. I could choose to spend that time drawing, or crafting, or writing. Or otherwise being generally productive.
Anyway, the whole point is that I don't post because I don't feel like I have anything to say, and/or I feel like no one is interested in my random/stupid musings.
Maybe I'll try to start posting anyways. I've been talking to hubs about making a schedule for us, like, so many hours for family time, cleaning, etc. So maybe I'll schedule some writing time for myself.
I'd like to try and wean myself off of facebook and youtube, and the interwebs in general because I have this crazy idea that it won't be around forever and that I should get used to not having it.
I dunno where that came from but it's here, prodding at the back of my mind...making me feel like a crazy person.
One of the most interesting things about converting to Catholicism (and thus gaining a new perspective of the world) is looking back on the weird things I used to do.
For instance, when I lived by myself, I would bake in my bikini top during the summer. This made perfect sense to me at the time since I was doing a lot of baking for work and it was so hot. There was one time while I had roommates - and there were people visiting - that I did this without thinking twice about it. This caused some trouble that I wasn't made aware of until later; it hadn't even occurred to me that others would find this offensive, but I should have known better.
I used to think that hanging out with guys was okay, even if I wasn't single. Now I understand why it's not. What's more, I understand that the reason I felt this way was because I tend to not get along with other women very well. The main reason is that I'm kinda nerdy and most girls my age are not. I'm not interested in The Bachelor, or anything on television, really. I prefer Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, and Sherlock. I don't find very many girls that share this set of interests, so I rationalized being friends with boys.
I had a friend that would come over and do chain mail at my apartment. He taught me how to weave, actually. The idea was he needed someone to help him produce enough chain mail dice bags to put in a nerd shop for sale. I did not see anything wrong with this for the longest time; long after I stopped doing it because it made my boyfriend (now hubby) uncomfortable. It just hit me one day while we were having lunch with the priest who was my instructor.
Being married has driven the point further.
Being on birth control is a whole other can of worms. Part of it was being uneducated and the other part was laziness. Now I refuse to go back on the pill, or any other form of synthetic contraceptive for two reasons: I don't believe that messing with your body's natural hormones is healthy, and intentionally removing children from the equation completely strips sex of it's sacred and emotional values.
Besides, I really am a huge fan of knowing my cycles the way symtpo-thermal charting allows me to. Sure, I'll end up with a kid every now and then, but that's not so bad, and I don't yet perceive that to be the fault of the method as much as the fault of the practitioner(s).
I guess my whole point is that, having found the wonderful world of Christ, I look back and wonder why I did the things I did. I was seeking happiness, but I wandered down the wrong path.
Something about being sort of gullible.
